When the world is crazy and we are in isolation, it can be overwhelming. But even amidst all the uncertainty, there has been a rising trend of people finding ways to step up and give back to their local communities. Social media has made it easier (and safer) than ever to connect with those in need; the New York Times has reported on the rise of GoFundMe fundraisers and Venmo collections for those impacted financially by COVID-19. Additionally, social media is highlighting ways people are donating their time, from medical students volunteering to help with childcare so healthcare providers can report to work, to folks volunteering to participate in meal deliveries for homebound elderly. It’s inspiring to see that many Americans are making sense of this crisis by looking outwards and answering the calls of those who ask for help.
